Halitosis/Bad Breath in Children

Bad breath in kids is not uncommon and it can develop due to various reasons. This problem in toddlers/children is known as Halitosis and it mainly occurs due to dry throat.
Kids who usually don’t drink enough water throughout the day or don’t adhere to a healthy brushing regime often fall prey to Halitosis.

Major causes of Bad Breath in Kids

Breathing Through Mouth

Kids who breathe through mouth encourage the growth of bacteria. They suck a lot of things throughout the day which also make their mouth dry. Whenever the moth is dry, the flow of saliva will decrease and hence lack of Oxygen will cause bad breath. This foul smell also gets transferred to the objects that a kid puts in his mouth.

Unhealthy Brushing Habit

One of the major causes of bad breath in children is poor oral hygiene. Whenever you feed your child and don’t give him sips of water, the chances of bacterial growth increases. Cleaning child’s tongue and gums on a daily basis is necessary to avoid bad breath.

Blocked Nasal Passage

When tiny objects are stuck in the nasal passages of a child, he breathes through his mouth which encourages bad breath. Also, an allergy or cold blocks their nasal passages sometimes and he has to breathe through his mouth.

VSCs

VSC stands for Volatile Sulphur Compounds. These are the compounds excreted when bacteria digest the mouth debris. These compounds comprise of various foul-smelling gases and until the mouth is not hydrated again, the bacteria will keep on growing and the bad breath will stay.

How to Cure Bad Breath in Kids At Home?

Taking action against child’s bad breath is very important before it leads to serious problems. However, you can rely on some home remedies before visiting your kid’s paediatrician.

1. Hydration

As we have discussed above, bad breath is mainly caused due to dry mouth. Giving small sips of water at specific intervals keeps your kid’s mouth hydrated. Drinking enough water is must to avoid bad breath and accumulation of bacteria due to dry mouth. You can set some targets for your child’s everyday water intake.

2. Foods to Feed

There are some foods that you can count on to eliminate your child’s bad breath. These foods include:
• Cucumber
• Yogurt
• Apples
• Oranges

3. Tongue Cleaning

Use soft baby tooth brush made for babies for cleaning tongue every day. It stops the bacteria to build up in child’s mouth. You can use soft rubber brush for this. If you have more than one kid, use separate brushes for each.

4. Brushing

Brushing child’s gums and teeth 2-3 times a day, with a specially designed soft children’s toothbrush every day is must. Try brushing in the morning, after lunch and before hitting the sack. Cleaning gums and tongue of the child regularly is very important to stop the accumulation of bacteria in mouth that cause bad breath and gum diseases. Always use non-abrasive toothpaste for babies. You can consult your child’s dentist if he needs flossing. Never try it without consulting a dentist as it may lead to bleeding of the gums.

Should Children Use Mouthwash?

During the development of a child’s teeth, a cosmetic condition called Fluorosis can occur. During this condition, the color and texture of child’s teeth change. Kids below six years should NOT use mouthwash. Many mouthwashes contain fluoride which encourages Fluorosis. Fluorosis is not permanent. White and brown spots may be visible on child’s teeth or his teeth may get bumpy. After 6 years, when your child is ready to use mouthwash, he must learn that it needs to be spit out like toothpaste. If he gulps down the liquid which contains chemicals, his health may get affected. You can test whether your child is ready to use mouthwash using water sips. Also, you must use very diluted mouthwash. Adults mouthwash is very strong for kids and not recommended.

Best Vegetables to Help You Reduce Extra Fats

Usually, there are two types of weight gain that is seen in Indian moms – during pregnancy and postpartum. Post pregnancy, reducing the belly fat is another big challenge that most of the Indian moms have to cope.
After the childbirth, plenty of questions whirl in the mind of an Indian mom who has gained so much weight like “Can I ever get back in my old shape?”, “Is anyone noticing my puffed figure?”, “When can I wear the dresses of my choice again?” – Too many thoughts!

Reasons Why Indian Moms Gain Weight

Indian moms gain weight due to the following reasons:
• Stress
• Discontinuing breastfeeding
• Insufficient sleep
• Thyroid
• Unhealthy Diet (Too much of Carbs and Less Fibers/Proteins)
• No proper exercises (Walk won’t help you reduce those pounds, you must run, Plank and squat!!)
Well, Indian mom weight gain home remedy is not a castle in the air. Below are some Indian mom weight loss vegetables that really work.

Vegetables for Indian Moms for Reducing Fats

In India, you will find amazing variety of vegetables which are full of nutrients and help you reduce extra fat. If you take enough quantity and cook/make it in the right way, you will surely reduce those unnecessary pounds. These are not only for weight loss but good for a fit body, glowing skin and shiny hair as well.

Leafy Vegetables Like Spinach

spinach
Moms who prefer fruits and veggies over spicy and exotic foods are seen to be healthier and have a toned body. Spinach is an easily-available low-calorie leafy veggie that works wonder in weight loss post pregnancy. Also, spinach is a rich source of dietary fiber which is not fully absorbed by the body and hence you don’t gain weight but feel fuller after having spinach.
The right way to eat spinach is, stir fry it for only one minute and eat one bowl of it. But, it is not lip-smacking, so this is how I have it: I boil it for 1 minute in tomato and carrot, blend it, strain and drink it (Without Salt/Spices, you read it right!!). As it’s just a few seconds’ job in comparison to chewing it for 10 minutes.
Recipe for Vegetable juices for Weight Loss

Dudhi/Lauki/Bottle Gourd

dudhi juice
Dudhi or Lauki is a vastly used veggie in Indian households. It’s a healthy green veggie which not just helps you shed some pounds but relish many other benefits like healthy heart and lower cholesterol level. Bottle Gourd is a rich source of calcium, Vitamin K and Vitamin C. Even Ayurvedic practitioners suggest this wonder veggies for moms who have gained weight. This should be taken in the raw vegetable juice form. However, I eat Lauki just by cooking it for a minute.

Why New Indian Moms Should Eat Bottle Gourd?

Louki or Dudhi is a very nutritious veggie. It helps new moms who breastfeed to keep their body hydrated and also improves breast milk production. It is also helpful in weight loss, eliminating the risks of kidney diseases, constipation, digestion and fulfilling the everyday nutrient requirement of the body.
You can also prepare Dudhi Sabzi which also tastes good and good for health. Or again go for juice just like previous recipe (Spinach Juice)

Karela/Bitter Gourd

bitter gourd
Well, this is one vegetable which is not happily accepted in a lot of Indian households for obvious reasons – its bitter taste. But, do you know this green bitter vegetable is like Gold for your health? You’ve heard it right. Karela has enormous health benefits.
Karela juice is known for weight loss, but for 99% of the people, it’s not easy to drink karela juice.
You may try adding some fruits but still it may be too hard to drink.
This is what I do: I grate the karela, squeeze the juice out of it by hand only.
I drink it immediately. (Don’t let it rest for more than even 10 minutes). You will get only about 3 table spoons of juice from 3-4 karelas. (Why do this?: Because you get the bitterness out from karela in those 3-4 table spoons which you can gulp in a second and now karela is ready for subji which tastes awesome)
Now, I make sabji of karela like mentioned below:
1. Fry grated or finely chopped onion and one garlic clove in oil
2. Add karela grated and squeezed, fry it without covering let it cook
3. Add jaggery and lemon juice. It tastes nice.

4) Cucumber:

cucumber
One cucumber daily in salad freshly cut!! Good for skin too. Cucumber is not just a juicy salad vegetable but it contains loads of nutrients. Take it on raw form for maximum benefits. Include one cucumber in your daily diet.

5) Carrot

carrot juice
Freshly grated carrot in salad – one bowl daily
Carrots are full of Vit A and fibers just perfect for your healthy weight loss. Don’t go for sugar loaded Gajar ka Halwa. Have it raw and if you are not much of fond of raw carrot slices, then simple grate it and have with lettuce or beet root (grated)
Why to grate veggies? Well, I personally find it too long to eat the vegetable slices. Grated carrot is easy and faster to chew.

Please note:

1. When you make any vegetable juice, especially the fresh raw vegetable juice without boiling, have it within 5 minutes of making. Some vegetables like Dudhi are harmful if let rest for more than 30 minutes.
So, to take maximum benefits of such juices, take them immediately
2. Don’t take single type of juice daily. Instead, take variety like given recipes of weight loss
3. Don’t cut down on proteins. They are must-have else you will feel weak instead of energetic and losing weight.
4. Exercises are equally important. Running is the best for improving stamina and muscles. Just walking won’t give you desired results. Just take care of your knee and back.
So, shedding weight is of course a joy to behold but the journey may not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you are ready to follow a healthy regime religiously, you can shed those extra pounds too. The above-mentioned diet and fitness tips will surely show results in a couple of months only.

Can Eating Onion Make Breast Milk Taste Bad For Baby?

Though onions have a pungent smell and an intense taste, they are widely used in the households and have a plethora of medicinal properties. But, are they safe during breastfeeding?
Well, onions are undoubtedly one of the food ingredients that add to the taste of a recipe. New lactating moms are usually worried about their diet due to the doubtful known theory that the taste of their breast milk may change and the baby won’t like it. There are many myths related to eating onions during breastfeeding. Some of the top myths about eating onions during breastfeeding include:
• Eating onions and garlic can change the breast milk’s taste
• Eating onions by nursing moms can harm babies
According to some research and the advice by some paediatricians, avoiding some foods including onions during breastfeeding is good. The theories related to eating onions by nursing moms are not 100% true but the foods like garlic and onions do have an impact on the breast milk. The below questions will clear the mist.

Can Onion Cause Gas in Baby?

onions
Paediatricians suggest not eating gas-inducing foods during pregnancy. Even some green veggies like onions, garlic and cauliflower may cause colic and affect the baby within 2 hours of breastfeeding. The same happens after the consumption of caffeine and some dairy products that contain allergens.

Can Onion Flavour the Breast Milk?

If not all, some amount of your diet changes the taste of your breast milk. There is a mixed opinion about this theory among the paediatricians. A baby can easily detect the taste of the foods like garlic and onions in the breast milk but that doesn’t mean they are going to reject it for this reason. Some babies like these intense tastes as the breast milk doesn’t taste like regular milk. Some medical practitioners don’t support this theory at all but there are enough research and case studies to let us think about it.

Do Raw Onion and Cooked Onion Have the Same Effect on Breast Milk?

Considering the ingredients which are main culprits behind the change in taste and making milk cause gas in babies, the raw onion is surely to be avoided but cooked onion may have less impact. Nursing moms should prefer cooked veggies over raw ones. Cooked onions, garlic and other foods with intense tastes may not affect the taste of the breast milk severely and they are good for the health of the mom and the baby.

First 40 Days of Breastfeeding and Mighty Onion: My Way

If not for whole 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding, I did not have onion during first 40 days. Not only because its doubtful but I used to have mainly gruels and kanjis, simple sabji chapatti. According to Indian tradition approach to healthy breastfeeding diet, onion is one of to-be-avoided foods. I preferred avoiding it. But after 40days, I did include the cooked onion in diet. Till 6 months, I totally avoided raw onion.

If your baby’s pediatrician has not asked you to cut down on any specific food yet, there is no need to worry about its side effects. A nursing mom can eat almost all the healthy foods unless the child shows any symptom of rejection during breastfeeding. Onions are safe for lactating moms but they must be well-cooked.

Flossing your Child’s Teeth: FAQs n Tips

Flossing is needed to maintain oral hygiene when ordinary brushing fails to eliminate all the hidden debris in the mouth.
Toothbrush can’t reach all the areas and the food particles still remain stuck between the teeth. Flossing cleans one’s teeth and prevents infection and sore gums. But, the question is do kids or babies need flossing? Yes, they do BUT with CARE.

Is Flossing Safe For Kids?

Flossing is completely safe for kids. It’s an important dental hygiene practice that saves your kid from various oral infections and troubles. Flossing saves your kid from cavity, bad breaths, decay of the teeth and gum related issues. Teaching your kids about flossing at an early age will develop a good habit of maintaining dental hygiene in them.

When to Start to Floss for Kids?

Teach your kids about flossing when they are young. Ideally, when your kid’s teeth fit together closely, flossing can be done every day. When your kid is 3 years old and when he completely understands your instructions. It’s the best time to start flossing as his motor skills are developed by this age and he is ready for this process. If they’re not able to use threads and can’t wrap the floss, try giving them flossing sticks.

How to Floss a Kid’s Teeth?

There are various types of floss available like flavoured floss, non-flavored floss, smooth floss, textured floss etc. If you are using floss at home, rather than providing a floss of your choice, let your kid choose one. He will be more confident and happy with that. The first flossing must be done by a dentist. Dentist may choose a type of flossing among spool, loop or other flossing techniques. Short length floss should be held with the index finger and thumb. For a better hold, your kid can wind it around a finger. While inserting the floss, make sure the pressure applied is mild and suitable for your kid. For each tooth, apply a new floss section. This will be more hygienic. Make a C-curve before moving the floss up and down. You can also try this with a dummy mouth at his dentist’s clinic to make your kid more confident and well-versed with the technique.

Should a Parent do it for Kids?

Though its always recommended for kids to do it themselves, I personally like to do it myself for kid, he sometimes does it fast or with unnecessary extra pressure, the floss reaches his gums and it may bleed. I started flossing my kid’s teeth when he turned 5.

How Many Times a Day Flossing is Required?

Most of dentists recommend after every meal, but start with Once in a day preferably at night before bed before your kid is able to do it himself and is also doing it comfortably and safely.

Best Flosser to Buy Online in India

Check the reviews. Compare with other options. This one is best in price n reviews.
When you start flossing for your kid’s teeth, make sure you are using proper technique otherwise bleeding may occur. Once your kid’s gums are healthy, there will be lesser chances of bleeding. Make flossing a daily habit for your kid for a good oral health.

New Born Baby Care Guide for Fathers

Fatherhood is usually an underrated and a very difficult job. A mother is ready to embrace the challenges and responsibilities since her pregnancy phase and loads of advice and tips boost her mentally. But, when a man becomes a father for the first time, he realises the real challenges.
Back in the old days, people used to live in a joint family where there were grandparents, uncles, aunts and other family members to take care of the newborn in the absence of father or mother. New dads back then were never surrounded by so many responsibilities and challenges as they are today. Why? Males in different parts of the world are raised with a different psychology than females. Things like work, financial stability and a secured future always remain the top priorities for men. After becoming a dad, they suddenly realize a change in their priorities and some new challenges to cope.
Thanks to internet (Google and YouTube) that it’s no more difficult to train yourself in even a day’s time.

Tips for New Fathers: How to Take Care of Your Newborn?

Here are some tips for new fathers: Babies Age: 0 to 4 months old

How to hold the baby:

holding newborn
Men who are not seasoned parent must know the right way to hold a newborn. First of all it is important to wash your hands properly before holding the baby. Feel confident and give support to his head and neck. The baby can’t hold his neck like toddlers and hence never place your hands under his arms. His arm bones are very delicate.
If you are right-handed, try placing your left hand under his neck with a strong grip. Make sure the hold is very gentle.
After that, using your right hand hold his bum and hold his complete body sliding your hands. This movement should be done from his back to his feet. After that baby’s neck should be slide in his neck to your left elbow.
The final step is to calm your baby and you can do it by gentle swings or bounces.

Skin to Skin Contact with Baby

skin to skin baby
Baby’s love cuddling and not only mothers but fathers too are encouraged for skin-to-skin contact with their baby. It not just makes a baby feel safe, comfortable and happy but studies say that it aids to baby’s brain development too. For a safe and comfortable sleep, you can let your baby sleep on your bare chest.

Burping:

Newborns are only dependant on breast milk and sometimes it creates gas in their gastrointestinal system. To eliminate this gas, babies need to burp. New dads can save mom’s time and efforts by helping the baby burp. In the first month, it may occur around 8-10 times a day or even more. More details regarding baby burping is here: Burping Baby Guide

Bathing Your Baby:

bathing baby
Co-bathing is really an enjoyable experience for new dads. Before entering the tub with your baby, make sure the temperature is perfect for your baby and everything you need during the bath is within your arm’s reach. Never try giving bath to your baby in the traditional way of bathing the baby on legs. This will restrict your control over baby’s movements and chances of baby’s slipping will be more. Just make him sit on your lap and this will cut down on the risks and your worries.

Talk To Your Baby:
talk to your baby
It’s obvious that your baby won’t react much or give too many expressions when you communicate with him but talking to your baby is not just fun but it aids to his development too. Your baby’s young brain is able to grasp the tones, sounds, gestures and expressions. He can listen to every sound you make or every word you say. After your hectic day, when you cuddle your baby and talk to him, it not just makes you calm and happy but your baby feels the same.
Things may seem pretty difficult for new dads in the beginning as they have to cope with professional schedules as well as personal life. But, with time, you will start enjoying it. Chickenpox Very Early Symptoms in Kids

First of all, please note that chickenpox AKA Varicella is very uncommon in babies below 12 months. As they have natural immunity to it. Usually the first vaccine for chickenpox i.e. Varicella is given at age about 15 months.
In case of toddlers, they may get infected when they come in contact with an infected person.

Chickenpox is very rare in young babies below 12 months. It mostly transmits through contact with an adult person suffering from chickenpox or shingles.

7. Varicella Vaccination: When and How many?

Varicella Vaccination is the best we got to prevent the babies from chickenpox. This vaccination is recommended in two phases; first is between 12 to 15 months and the second is between 4 to six years. The first dose of the vaccine boosts the immunity but to sustain this effectiveness, babies need another dose between 4 to 6 years. Just one booster shot is enough for one phase.

Bed Wetting in Kids: How to Help Stop?

Bedwetting or night time incontinence is pretty common in babies. Waking up in the middle of a night to check whether the baby has wet the bed is a tough task. But, pressurizing or scolding the child for not wetting the bed is not a suitable solution. This doesn’t happen only with young babies but children between the age of 5-10 also suffer from this issue. Below are some tips that may help your baby stop bedwetting and provide you a sense of relief.

Tips for Parents to help a child Stop Urinating in Sleep

Make Child Pee before Bed

Urinating before sleeping routine is very effective in stopping them from wetting the bed in the midnight. Ask them to pee 15 minutes prior hitting the sack. An empty bladder before sleeping will not make them feel the urge to pee in the midnight.

Try to Control Fluid Intake just before Bed Time

For several years, we have been listening to this fact from our parents and grandparents that we should avoid excess fluid intake before going to bed. When the bladder is full or about to be full, kids will feel the urge to pee in the midnight. Also, never allow them to have any caffeinated drink before sleeping (or anytime). By controlling the fluid intake, I don’t mean you should reduce the fluid amount in a day; rather I emphasize on making the fluid intake regime even throughout the day so that your child doesn’t have to drink a lot of water before sleeping.

Don’t Scold or Punish

Scolding or punishing a baby every time he wets the bed is not at all a prolific solution for bedwetting. Rather they will be scared and won’t tell you even if they have wet their bed. Also, never make fun of their bedwetting problem. This will do nothing but add to his embarrassment, fear and stress which no parents want.

Don’t Forcefully Wake Them Up

It’s very important to understand that making a kid stop bedwetting doesn’t imply to create an inconvenience or a negative feeling for them. Never wake them up forcefully. You should figure out the right time to wake them up. If they are not waking up easily, try to change the bed sheet without waking them forcefully.

Reward for Not Wetting Bed

Rewards always work in the case of children. Giving them rewards every time they escape wetting the bed will encourage them to sustain this habit and maintain it.

Constipation

Solid bowel movements are often a major issue that causes bedwetting. The excess load of bowel limits the bladder’s capacity leading to the urge of peeing in the middle of the night. Medication for constipation can be helpful in such cases.

Talk to Doctor

It’s very important to take a doctor’s advice when your child often wets his bed. A doctor may diagnose the actual cause of bedwetting. Sometimes a doctor may suggest medication that prevents the bladder from overfilling in the night. Also, if your child pees pretty often or continues bedwetting for several months, you must visit a doctor for proper treatment.

Sufficient Playtime

Let them play outside, make them physically active. Keep their diet healthy
A healthy diet and an active body is very helpful in preventing the children from keeping body hydrated in day time. Obese children are more likely to wet the bed in comparison to fit and healthy children.

Stop Using Diapers Completely: At Right Age

Using diapers for a long time affects a child’s psychology as he feels that it’s completely okay to pee during the sleep as the diaper is there. Once they know or after a point of time they discover that they don’t have nappy or diaper to keep them dry, they will develop the habit of going to the washroom to pee. Stopping the use of nappy at right age will help your child’s brain to send a signal when his bladder is full.

Control Room Temperature

Too cold rooms can be a culprit of bed wetting. Maintaining the right temperature in which your child feels comfortable and sleeps properly can help him control the habit of bedwetting.
Making your baby stop bedwetting at the right age will prevent chronic bedwetting issue. Consulting a doctor is very important if this problem is not controlled even after taking all the measures. Chronic bedwetting gives birth to many other problems like fatigue, irritability, feeling sleepy most of the time, hyperactivity etc. Following the above tips may help your child get rid of frequent bedwetting.

Why to Soak Almonds in Water Overnight?

Almonds, the powerhouse of protein, fiber, energy and many nutrients, have plenty of health benefits and longevity. Almonds are the best dry fruits for a good health. But, they may not be easily digested.
The peels of the dry fruit makes it difficult to digest. The presence of tannins and phytates also makes it hard to digest. How can you make almonds easy-to-digest?
Here is how we can avail the best benefits of the nutrients present in almonds and make it easy-to-digest.

This is how to Avail Maximum Nutrients from Almonds

Soak Almonds in Water Overnight

almond in water
Raw almonds have a hard texture. Tannin, the brown peel of the almonds absorbs the nutrients. When you soak almonds overnight, the peel easily comes off and nutrients like Vitamin E, proteins, Omega3 fatty acids etc are released. You can take a cup or bowl full of water and soak the desired amount of almonds in it overnight. The duration of soaking must be 8-10 hours.

Peel the Almonds

peeled almonds
Peels of the almonds are like a shield which restricts the easy release of the nutrients. These peels are enzyme inhibitors. These are very hard in raw almonds. It’s important to peel off the almonds for easy digestion. Sometimes eating almonds along with the peel creates or increases Pitta in blood. These peels can add to abdominal pain and gas sometimes.

Don’t Store, Use Fresh Almonds

If you keep the almonds soaked in water for long then it will be affected by bacteria or fungus. And, leaving them in the dry state will make them hard and dry again. So, the best way to eat almonds is eating the fresh ones. Also, keeping the almonds in refrigerator is not healthy. Fresh almonds soaked in water overnight gives you the best health benefits.
Make a habit of adding 10-12 almonds in a bowl of water every night before going to bed.

Why Have Almonds in Breakfast?

Breakfast is the most important part of everyday meal. Whatever you eat after a break of night gets absorbed in body better than other times of the day. You should never let your kids go out or for school in the morning without having breakfast. Almond is the most nutritious nut. It fills our body with energy and vitality in the morning. Adhere to just the usual way of making fennel seeds i.e. take a teaspoon of haldi + salt + 2 tablespoon water and mix this with fennel seeds. Coat the seeds well with this mixture.
Now, roast in a big pan on medium-low flame or microwave it about 5 minutes.

IMPORTANT TIP

You may keep the fennel seeds + sesame seeds with Coriander seeds together and only the Flax seeds separately because the flax seeds usually stick in mouth on teeth.
I usually keep them separate and give my kids flax seeds first then the fennel seeds+ Sesame + Coriander seeds mixture.
This mixture is helpful in controlling the bad breath or introducing a good aroma in mouth after the meals but this mixture also boosts the production of gastric enzymes that promote digestion.

Early Pregnancy: Feeling Moody?

Mood swings are one of common signs of early pregnancy as hormonal changes happen. Sometimes, mood swings accompany stress during this phase. Please note that there can be many reasons for mood swings and pregnancy is one of them. Also many women feel mood swings during regular MC.

Reasons for Mood Swings in Pregnant Women

The most obvious answer to what causes mood swings during pregnancy is Hormonal Changes. But, apart from that, psychology also contributes to this issue. These are the two major reasons for mood swings during pregnancy:

1. Hormones

The change in the hormones, especially progesterone and estrogen, undergo significant changes during the first trimester. These changes may happen due to pregnancy, thyroid issue, menopause, PMS and to name a few. The hormonal imbalance impacts the brain and hence women during the early phase of pregnancy experience frequent change in emotions.

2. Psychology

Psychology is also a major reason for mood swings during pregnancy. When you kind of guess before pregnancy test or come to know that a life is residing inside you, many emotions and thoughts make you happy as well as anxious. Sometimes a woman gets stressed thinking about the complications or responsibilities that may occur during the next pregnancy phases. Also, with each trimester, the behaviour of people changes, more or less, when they meet you. This also impacts your psychology.

Dealing with Mood Swings during Pregnancy

It’s obvious that your body will undergo few changes and then many with the phases of pregnancy. Many women find it difficult to get used to with these changes. Before visiting a doctor, there are some tips that will provide you a sense of relief if adhered to.

Enough Rest

Taking enough rest is very important during pregnancy and to avoid mood swings. It’s natural that a pregnant woman may find it difficult to have a sound sleep in the night. The best way to make up for this loss is taking 30 minutes of naps at specific intervals throughout a day. Sufficient sleep helps you stay calm and fresh.

Healthy Diet

Diet plays a vital role during pregnancy. Pregnancy is not about eating too much or eating whatever you love. Though diet will not have great impact on hormonal balance, a balanced diet is the key to avoid healthy issues in pregnancy and hence controlling mood swings and other pregnancy symptoms. Your diet must include vitamins, calcium, protein, iron, magnesium, fiber and other essential nutrients.

Exercise

Exercise is related to the functioning of brain. Regular mild workout can improve your mood as the balance of neurotransmitters is maintained. By doing regular workout, your blood circulation will also be good. You can also try Yoga or meditation for the peace of mind and avoid anxiety or stress.

Love Yourself

Sometimes you may feel angry or irritated due to various symptoms of pregnancy but it’s perfectly natural and it’s time to love yourself. Surround yourself with inspiring and positive stuff. You can visit your favorite places, dine out in a good restaurant, do shopping, watch a comedy or entertaining positive movie and so forth. The goal is to embrace the changes and these minor distractions can do wonders.

Meditation

Meditation during pregnancy helps to keep up your mood and energy level. Hormones will play with you for through out your pregnancy. Deal with them like a calm monk.

Communicate with Near and Dear Ones

Take a break from your professional life if you are a working woman or get less involved with the household chores if you are a homemaker. Spend some quality time with your spouse, friends or siblings. Just share with them whatever you want to.

When to See a Doctor?

There are some common symptoms during the early phases of pregnancy. If you find your mood swing abnormal or severe or accompanied with some symptoms that are not normal during pregnancy, it’s time to see a doctor.

Involve Your Partner

Never cope with mood swings or other pregnancy symptoms alone. Include your partner in every bright and dark shade of your pregnancy phases. Not only physical but moral support is also required during this time. Consider this time as an opportunity to do your favorite stuff and attend some social gatherings to uplift your mood.

Tasty Chinese Fried Rice for Kids: Recipe

Fried rice, especially with chicken pieces, egg and veggies is not just a yummy recipe but also delivers loads of health benefits.
When I was working in Tokyo, ‘Chahan’ i.e. fried rice was one of my favourite, flavourful, tasty, fulfilling and healthy foods. A single dish has veggies, chicken, and rice – all in one bowl. With one bowl of hot soup and that’s all you need be it lunch or dinner.
I make it for my kids every now and then. It’s quick, easy and kids love it.
Talking about the nutritional values, chicken is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. It has less saturated fat and hence it’s good for kids and adults.
Eggs are a good source of protein, selenium, vitamins and minerals.
Fresh green veggies too have great health benefits. This makes chicken egg fried rice a completely healthy and tasty recipe. Let’s see how it is prepared.

Recipe:Home Made Non Veg Fried Rice

Ingredients

Cooked rice (I use Ambemohar),
finely chopped veges: french beans, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, onion, ginger, garlic, capsicum
Green chilli or red chilli flakes, 2 eggs, chicken in small cube pieces and spring onion for garnishing

How to Make it?

1. The primary important tip to make tasty fried rice is: Cut the vegetables in small cubes, very small but don’t let the juices come out.
finely chopped bell peppers

2. Take a wok-like pan – that’s another important tip. Woks are easy to stir, fry and hold and therefore a great pick for quick frying.

3. Take one big spoon full oil, let it get hot, add minced garlic, let it get brown and crispy(so it tastes like burnt garlic rice). Now add, onion, ginger, chillies and stir fry fast. Make sure for all these steps the flame is medium-high.

4. Once the above ingredients are cooked until the brown color is achieved, add chicken pieces, cut them small enough so they get cooked in hardly for 3-4 minutes. Don’t cover, keep stirring in between.

5. Now, add French beans, carrot, and mushrooms, (don’t add capsicum and cabbage as they need less time to cook)

6. Let mushrooms release the water and get dried again. Keep stirring.

7. Now, add capsicum and cabbage and only stir for a minute.

8. Break the eggs and drop them directly into the pan. Don’t mix them immediately. After about 10 seconds, mix them. At first, it covers all the vegetables and doesn’t look appealing but once it’s cooked, it leaves the vegetables and gets separated. It releases the oil.

9. Add 2 spoons of soya sauce (I use Kikkoman light soy sauce). Add 2 drops of vinegar. If you are using light soy sauce then there is no need to add vinegar. Don’t mix it and add the cooked rice. (When you cook the rice, make it less sticky so that the grains are separated, before adding rice to the pan separate the grains with hand).

10. Now, stop the heat, take out the pan on the platform and gently mix the rice so that it is coated well with veggies, egg and soy sauce.

11. Put it back on heat on a low flame and cover it (Please note, we are using lid first and the last time here)

12. Let it be on heat for about 5 minutes. Use low flame only. Stir it only 2 times and it’s ready.

13. Garnish with spring onion.

Your delicious and healthy chicken + egg + vegetable fried rice is all set to hit your taste buds!

Fried rice is not just a popular food in east asia but the food remains an integral part of the menu cards worldwide. Proper ingredients and the right method can bring your fried rice into the spotlight when you are surrounded by your guests or simply accompanied by your family.
